Bulgarian cheese Brinza

This cheese is the pride of Bulgarian cheese-makers. It is 43% fat cheese, made from pasteurized cow's milk and is matured in brine. It is soft and crumbly cheese with a salty sour taste and has a slightly grainy texture. It is advised to soak this cheese in mineral water or milk for several minutes before eating it. After this procedure it becomes more tastier.

History and uniqueness

The cheese manufacturer - company Destan has been established in 1994, in Silistra city, in north-eastern Bulgaria. The Bulgarian Brinza cheese is traditionally made from goat or sheep milk. The Destan company is producing Brinza cheese only from 100% cow’s milk, which providing a milder taste. According the legend, the first Bulgarian’s Brinza cheese was born in sheep wineskin when the Arab merchant was carrying the milk in it. Under the influence of heat and bacteria, the milk soured and turned into the piece of cheese.

Onions, garlic, eggplants, potatoes, meat dishes with vegetables, blended soups. Sliced and cooked in foil it is suitable as a snack.
